March Shamrocks

Ok so this isn't entirely Longaberger related, but it totally could be! When I was first starting out on this blogging craze I came across Country Road Primitives . It's a primitive style decorating shop run by Carla  who has been collecting Longaberger since 1989, she has a collection of over 300 one of which Dave Longaberger signed personally after hearing how she clipped coupons to save money to buy Longaberger :) several others are signed by family members.

After her divorce she began selling some of her Longaberger Pottery on Ebay. From there she was invited to join a crafting group and received her sewing machine for mothers day. She now sells her awesome products on Ebay , Etsy as well as her own website . She gets to craft  full time with the help of her daughters which I'm sure allows for some great family time.

I discovered her site when I was searching for Longaberger and she used to sell, and she had a post about it. She now makes lots of primitive fabric crafts like quilts and these things

They're under the category bowl fillers, but why not fill baskets with them (she certainly did) 

But the awesome tulips aren't what I wanted to talk about, what I wanted to talk about were these shamrocks:

Aren't they just super cute! and wouldn't they be a nifty decoration in say... an Oval Spring Basket, or in a bowl basket,  or eep there are so many things they'd go with! Longaberger and the Primitive decorating movement/shabby chic work really well together. So you should definitely check some out if you're looking for a little something something to decorate with!

Mmm Mmm Monday- Puppy Chow for National Puppy Day

Did you know today is national puppy day? It's a day to celebrate the puppies in our lives and to help those that need to be in someone's life . 

SO for today's Mmm Mmm Monday I present: PUPPY CHOW! This is one of my Sweetie's favorite foods, (It's for humans, not for dogs, it contains chocolate, which produces the same effect in dogs as cocaine/heroin in people and could seriously harm them!) This recipe is great for hiking trips (in a plastic baggie) at a puppy themed birthday party, or just as a snack

Ingredients:

1/2 cup peanut butter

1/4 cup butter

1 cup Chocolate Chips

1/2 teaspoon Vanilla

9 cups crispix cereal (any flavor)

1-1/2 cups powdered sugar

Directions:

1. Combine Peanut butter, butter and chocolate chips in a microwave safe bowl (all Longaberger bowls are microwave safe!)

2. Microwave for one minute then stir to blend all ingredients thoroughly, Add 1/2 tsp vanilla, stir well.

3. Place the 9 cups crispix cereal in a very large bowl (may i suggest the Large Tip and Mix, or the large mixing bowl) 

4. Pour the melted mixture over the cereal and toss evenly making sure all the cereal is coated.

5. Sprinkle some of the powdered sugar over the mixture, tossing as you add a little more each time. 

For extra fun, serve in a Clean dog bowl (they're dishwasher safe) super cute photo op at a kids party!

Hi ya'll, 

I've been thinking, wouldn't it be nice to have something witty and smart sounding to say when someone starts knocking your baskets? You know, oh those baskets, their so expensive, why not just go to Walmart and pick up a nice wicker one, looks just like that one!

1. Longaberger Baskets and Woodcrafts are made in America. By buying Longaberger I'm doing my part to support American workers, I've met some of the folks that make products that I serve my family out of (serving baskets).

2. These baskets are made to last, I've seen baskets that are from the 80's still kicking it with a big old stack of magazines, or holding VHS tapes beside the TV. Clearly well loved, but that's part of that family's story!

3. The market basket, easilly holds more than a plastic bag at the grocery store without busting through the bottom, not only is it easier, it's better for the environment. 

4. Longaberger pottery keeps food hot for HOURS, goes straight from table to fridge, AND is dishwasher safe, No dishpan hands for me thank you very much. (ok, I don't have a dishwasher but don't tell anyone else that!)

Uses for the Little Market

Hey Ya'll

The new flag basket is based on the size and shape of the Little Market, which is a great little basket that I use to store bracelets and other small jewlery and pins. This ranks up there with the tea basket for my favorite "catch all" basket. 

 So today I bring you some other uses for the Little Market/ Flag Basket

- As I said this basket is the same size as the Little Market or the Home Office 10th anniversary basket, so keep that in mind if you like to buy non standard protectors or liners.

- Use this basket (WITH A PROTECTOR) for your every day cosmetics, moisturizor, eyeliner and foundation, chapstick or lipstick, this puts everything that you need to get out of the house in one place   

- If you like working on Needlework or Cross Stitch, this basket holds your work, floss, and needles. 

- Holds remote control(s) and TV guide

- We have one on the desk to keep Cd's they fit really nicely in this basket. 

-Hold on to hair "doo hickies" as a little girl I know refers to them

- Fits neatly into the center console of most vehicles, keep hand sanitizer, chapstick and a small bottle of lotion in it.

Mmm Mmm Monday- Grandma Bonnie's Pie Crust

Hi Ya'll
Today I'd bring you the recipe Grandma Bonnie Longaberger used for her pie crust.


Grandma Bonnie Longaberger's Pie Crust
2 c flour
1/2 T sugar
3/4 tsp salt
3/4 c lard
1 small egg, beaten
1/2 T vinegar
1/4 c water

In a large bowl, sift together flour, sugar and salt. With a pastry blender or 2 knives, cut in lard until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Mix together egg, vinegar and water, then add to flour mixture. Mix until dough is moist enough to form a ball. Wrap in plastic and chill for 30 minutes. Divide dough in 1/2. On a lightly floured surface, roll 1/2 into a 12 inch circle. Press dough into pie plate. Crimp to for decorative border, then prick bottem with fork. Place in freezer while preparing pie filling. Makes one double crust pie.


*note: instead of lard you can totally use crisco

Mmm Mmm Monday- Easy Chocolate E-clair Pudding thing

Ok so the title doesn't make it sound as appetizing as it was, it was OMG amazing.

So I wanted something sweet yesterday and All i had in my dorm room was a pack of pudding and whipped cream. So I went to the convienience store on campus and picked up some vanilla wafers and chocolate icing in the hopes that I could make a semblance of an e-claire/ boston cream pie thing.
So I made it in a loaf dish, and it was good.

SO how did I do it?
Step 1- Layer Vanilla wafers in the bottom of the dish
Step 2- Mix together pudding according to the directions on the box (I used cheesecake flavor, but vanilla would work well too)
Step 3- before the pudding sets pour half of it on the wafers.
Step 4- Add a layer of whipped cream
Step 5- Add a second layer of wafers
Step 6- hopefully your pudding is still liquidy... pour another layer on top of the whipped cream Step 7- Take chocolate icing and take about 2-3 teaspoons and 1 teaspoon of butter and microwave about 15 seconds (stir when it comes out, it should melt further when stirred) pour this on top of the pudding,
Step 8- add another layer of wafers (I put my top layer in sets of 2 and rows of like 6) Finish off with a few little dollops of whipped cream (I was using canned whipped cream so they looked like little flowers) on top of the wafers. Let sit in the fridge for a few hours-overnight.
Eat.
to slice this a spatula is pretty handy, it makes less of a mess...
Next time I want to experiment with making a stiff chocolate shell...

Get Organized!

Hey Everyone-
Today's post is about an organization tip for consultants.

I've designed a sheet to keep track of your customer info, print out a bunch and put them in a 3 ring binder. If you don't want to use a sheet like I've designed you could also use large index cards and keep them in the recipe basket.

The information that I feel is important to keep track of are:

The basics like Name, address, phone number, email address, these are good to have on hard copy because even though the email addresses are in your email sometimes technology goes wrong.

Information about their collecting: Keep track of what basket stains they collect and what pottery colors they use so that if there is a sale you know- hmm I should call her, or hey I just found this awesome deal on ebay, I should shoot over an email.

Important dates- save hubby some embarassment, call him before her birthday and say "hey Joe, I know Laura's birthday is coming up, there's a great sale this month on eggplant loaf dishes, would you be interested?" (can you imagine if your hubby suprised you with Longaberger on your anniversary?)

The Extra Notes section is for anything else you might want to add in, maybe retired products they're looking for or the fact that they're a collectors club member.

*Bonus Note: If you pop the sheets in a clear page protector before adding it into your binder, you can erase things like "looking for 2000 easter basket" after you found it for her.

How to have a super successful Home Show!

Hey ya'll-
   Today I'd like to give some hints at a successful Homeshow, these tips will be great for either Hostesses or for Consultants.
1. Send out more invitations that you expect (however, don't tempt fate and invite more than your house could possibly hold) generally you get about 1/3 of the people you invite to show up
2. In advance select the gifts and half price items the hostess wants to recieve, this sets up a goal so you know what you're aiming for.
3. Follow up on those folks that didn't RSVP and find out why, if they can't make it pry a little maybe (depending on the situation). If you have a bunch of people who need childcare offer up that pre-teen of yours, give her 10 bucks and a wiggles movie and lock them in the basement.
4. Don't limit the invites to mail only, Longaberger also offers hostess e-cards
5. Don't focus too much on booking new shows, sure that's a bonus for both the hostess and the consultant, but people really don't want to be nagged into it.

Mmm Mmm Monday- Dirty Dessert

This is a recipe I used to LOVE at girl scout events! It's Dirt Dessert, Basically it's food made to look like dirt in a flower pot, we always made it in a plastic bag, but it looks really nice in a flower pot!

The New Longaberger Flower Pot is a booking gift only.

Ingredients
- 2 packages Chocolate or Vanilla Pudding (chocolate looks more Dirty, but Vanilla tastes better to me) Or you can cheat and use the oreo pie filling mix pudding (I won't tell)
- Oreos
-12 oz Cool Whip
-Gummy Worms and/or silk flowers

Make the Pudding According to the directions, Fold Cool Whip in with pudding.

In a plastic bag wrapped in a towel, crunch up the oreos

In a CLEAN flowerpot, use a whole oreo or a marshmallow to plug the hole in the bottom. Layer Pudding and Oreos. Add in Gummy worms to some of the layers and have a few popping over the top, Add flowers to the top for a cute effect.

This makes a neat spring dessert or a great kids party treat.

Mmm Mmm Monday- Red White and Blue

Today I'm going to give you a red white and blue recipe in honor of the Inauguration. This Recipe for Chili Dip should be perfect for the cold weather if you serve it warm! (and It will stay warm in Longaberger! especially if you use a baking dish!


1 lb. cream cheese, softened
2 16-oz. cans chili (with beans and meat)
1 lb. Monterey Jack cheese, shredded
1 bag blue corn chips

Spread cream cheese on the bottom of a 9-by-13-inch baking Dish. Pour chili onto cream cheese and spread shredded cheese on top. Heat in a 300-degree oven for about 12 to 15 minutes or until cheese melts. Serve with big blue corn chips. Delicious!
Serves how many: 8 to 10
Takes how long to make: 15 to 20 minutes
Kid-friendliness rating: 7 (1 to 10, where 1= Won't eat it until after college and 10= They beg you to make it every night)
Difficulty rating: 1 (1 to 10, where 1= Practically boiling water and 10= Takes years and Julia Child's help to perfect)

- Introduction of black stain for Spring... Not sure on that one, I LIKE black (my two favorite colors are Hot Pink and Black) and I'm just not feeling it.

It is described as having "clean lines" regarding the glaze, color and design. The braid on the outside is taken from JW's Cake Basket (he braided twine on the band and attached handles with 3 tacks)
